Congratulations to NORR Chairman, Silvio Baldassarra, who was recently recognized with the 2019 Ordine al Merito by the National Congress of the Italian Canadians Toronto District.
Learn more about his distinguished honour. Italian-born Canadian architect Silvio Baldassarra was awarded the Ordine al Merito for 2019 by the National Congress of Italian Canadians Toronto District.
The National Congress of Italian Canadians instituted the Ordine al Merito in 1988 to recognize Italian Canadians who, over the years, have made a significant difference in their work, community and the Canadian society as a whole.
Recipients of this distinguished honour are presented with a unique solid gold lapel pin. The Ordine al Merito Pin is a replica of the Congress logo and is designed with a diamond, ruby and emerald to symbolize the colours of the Italian flag.
An illustrious selection of Italian Canadians have been honoured with the Ordine al Merito in the past including: Jonny Lombardi (1988); Justice Frank Iacobucci (1989); Elvio L DelZotto Q.C. (1992); Julian Fantino (1994); Alfredo De Gasperis (2002); Angelo Baldassarra (2004); Lenny Lombardi (2011); Cav. Michael A Tibollo, CSJ (2014) and; Rossana Di Zio Magnotta (2016).
Silvio is the Chairman of NORR Architects & Engineers Limited, an employee-owned firm with offices worldwide, backed by more than 750 professionals. He is a registered architect in Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia. Silvio is a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and is the 2019 Chair of the RAIC Convocation Festival.
Silvio’s career began at Joseph Bogdan Associates. In 1986, he started a long-term career with NORR and is an active Chairman of the firm. Amongst his portfolio of projects, he is the executive architect for New Toronto Courthouse and the Union Station Revitalization Project in Toronto.
Silvio was born in Sora Frosinone Italy and immigrated to Toronto at the age of five. He was educated at Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology and The University of Toronto.
The Ordine al Merito was awarded by Silvana Tibollo, President of the National Congress of Italian Canadians Toronto District and Grace Isgro Chairperson. The Awards Ceremony was also attended by the Honorable Michael Tibollo, Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Italian Counsel General Eugenio Sgro and Antonio Porretta, President of National Congress of Italian Canadians – Ontario.
