John is an architect with a 40-year career in design. As the Director Operations in the Philadelphia office, he manages an integrated team of architects, engineers, interior designers and planners working across a variety of market sectors. John is a designer and project executive with a focus on higher education, although his project experience is wide-ranging including a strong portfolio of single-family residential work, primarily renewing and expanding historic properties.
John works with Colleges and Universities to plan, design and execute a wide variety of projects ranging from academic buildings for individual schools within a university, general classrooms, science and research, libraries, sports and recreation and conference centers to comprehensive campus plans. As the professional development chair of the Society of College and University Planners (SCUP) Mid-Atlantic Council, John stays abreast of the latest trends and challenges facing Higher Education. One of John’s passions is design process planning, working with clients to fully engage multiple stakeholders to find solutions to complex problems. John understands that advancing technologies and evolving student expectations are influencing educational facility design. The places in which students interact, engage and learn must be hands-on, flexible and technologically advanced. From primary schools to higher education institutions, John helps to connect students, faculty and staff to positively influence learning outcomes.
John’s artistic side gets additional exercise outside the office as a baritone in the Mendelssohn Club Chorus, a group that often accompanies the Philadelphia Orchestra and is renowned for adventurous new commissions including work with several Pulitzer prize-winning composers.
