Ray’s school of thought on architecture is that when it comes to designing for education, you must be adaptable. With more than 22 years of experience in design, Ray has completed more than 35 projects across Education typologies including student centers, student housing, general academic and STEM, as well as dedicated student dining facilities.
As a Principal at NORR, Ray continues to be inspired by the many ways design can foster creativity, collaboration, and collegiality. He embraces the challenge of designing spaces that can positively influence educational environments and learning outcomes. He is acutely aware that technology has enabled learning to occur everywhere, and the line between living and learning has blurred. Student lifestyles and preferences are constantly changing, and he strives to craft a client’s vision into a meaningful design solution that anticipates the very different needs of coming generations. Ray respects that every campus has its own brand, legacy and architectural style, and he makes sure every project reflects that uniqueness.
Ray has a true do-it-yourself spirit, and he is actively involved in the renovation of his more than two-hundred-year old farmhouse. Because he self performs all the trades, from finished carpentry to plumbing, he has developed a real understanding and appreciation of quality craftsmanship, design, and detailing. Ray brings that can-do attitude to every education project, and he enjoys sharing his experiences with and mentoring architects and designers new to the profession.
