Dubai, a city renowned for its skyline, now features the tallest hotel in the world. At 81 floors and reaching a remarkable height of 373 meters, Ciel Dubai Marina has set a global benchmark for hotel design and vertical living.
Designed by NORR Group, Ciel is ambitious, featuring vertically stacked enclosed gardens throughout the height of the tower, and motivated by the quest for clarity and elegance. Singular in form, the detailing of the tower and podium is intentionally abstract and minimalist.
The design of Ciel captures the challenge of integrated design – the coming together of efforts by our architects and engineers to unlock hidden potential. Ciel is the result of a highly iterative design process requiring a willingness to experiment and to thoughtfully push boundaries. Early in the design effort, computational fluid dynamic analysis and wind tunnel modeling had a dramatic impact on the structure and shape of the tower. Ciel’s design addresses many complex challenges, including resource efficiency and sustainability, the limits of bending glass in constructing the envelope, and the integration of naturally ventilated landscaped terraces within the form of the tower.
Ciel accommodates over 1,000 hotel keys and features a 300-meter-tall atrium. The tower includes restaurants, health facilities, and four outdoor swimming pools, including an ocean-facing infinity pool at level 76. The top of the tower features an observation deck with dramatic views to the horizon.
