Trees play a vital role in reforestation, biodiversity, forest fire management–and carbon reduction to help fight climate change.
As part of our NORRForward Corporate Social Responsibility Program, we see meaningful value in tree planting initiatives. Through a $10,000 charitable donation to One Tree Planted, our support of the Forest Fire Fund will aid reforestation and help facilitate a healthy ecosystem recovery in areas that have experienced high severity fires.
Forest fires are increasingly larger and more intense due in part to climate change, and as a result more fires are severely degrading ecosystems. Many of our communities have been affected by recent forest fires and we feel it’s important to take action.
Forest Fire Stats
Planting trees doesn’t just safeguard ecosystems against future threats. It can also help combat one of the most immediate consequences of forest fires: soil erosion. Fires consume the organic matter and litter layer that shield and nurture soil, inducing hydrophobicity (an inability to absorb water). Reforestation plays a critical role in soil conservation by minimizing sedimentation, preventing erosion, and fostering a diverse vegetation community that will stabilize soils over time.
One Tree Planted has partnered with almost 400 organizations in over 80 countries to plant more than 135 million trees worldwide. Every tree planted is selected based on the unique needs of each project’s ecosystem, including the animal and human communities who live there.
We are committed to tree planting initiatives that have long-lasting benefits for future generations.
