Poised to become Alberta’s tallest building, Stampede Station Hotel & Residences is a landmark mixed-use development led by Truman. Located at the meeting point of the Bow and Elbow Rivers in Calgary, the 62-story and 69-story towers will anchor the Calgary Stampede grounds and transit corridor. Conceived as a gateway to the city, it brings together residential, hospitality, restaurants, retail and public amenities in a striking vertical form. Truman’s vision called for a design that blended hospitality excellence with urban density, featuring a JW Marriott and W Hotel—each in its own tower—along with over 750 residential units ranging from one-bedroom condos to expansive Executive Suites with panoramic mountain and downtown views.
NORR provided Executive Architect, Design Architect and Interior Design Assist services, bringing deep experience in high-rise and hospitality design. Drawing inspiration from the rivers and the Blackfoot word meaning “elbow”—the building’s form traces dual curving gestures that echo the confluence, while the balconies alternate with recessed interiors to mimic ripples on water. This layered pattern creates a distinct textural expression that becomes more sculptural as the towers rise. A five-level podium connects the towers and contains separate hotel lobbies, ballrooms, wellness facilities and pools dedicated to each brand.
Residential floors span levels 33 to 60, including branded residences that participate in a hotel-managed rental program when not in use by their owners. At the top, guests and residents access Canada’s highest food court, a restaurant, a private club and a public observatory. Critical for a near supertall design in Calgary’s climate, the building integrates strategies such as louvered mechanical floors to reduce wind pressure and mitigate sway, contributing to a resilient, future-facing addition to the city skyline.
Stampede Station Hotel & Residences is more than a vertical community—it’s a catalyst for urban regeneration. With pedestrian-level connectivity to the new train station and surrounding redevelopment, the project contributes housing, tourism and public experiences that activate downtown Calgary and honor the natural and cultural heritage of the site.
