Imperia by developer and builder Truman will make a dramatic statement on the Calgary, AB skyline. The architecture creates a bold new exterior expression for a high-rise condo using structural elements to form part of the design. Located in the Beltline district, known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, Imperia is a commendable example of urban regeneration and densification.

An underutilized site is the canvas for the development. A key design factor was to connect the ground floor to the community in an open and welcoming manner. This was accomplished with a triple height glass lobby that seamlessly integrates Imperia into the streetscape. The glass box design provides a sense of transparency from top to bottom enhanced by The Vault, an amenity space located half-way up the 27-story tower providing identical volume as the lobby. The Vault will feature indoor and outdoor spaces that embrace the latest trends in lifestyle and wellness supporting social interaction. Inspired by the Hyperion, the world’s tallest tree, the design of The Vault incorporates abstract roots and branches through a metal panel form.

The mixed-use condo development will comprise 273 units featuring a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom suites. At the tower’s base, 13,000 square feet of retail space is planned. Four levels of underground parking, including a fleet of electric vehicles, will be made available for occupant use.

The collaborative efforts of Truman and NORR will result in an energy-efficient building that will exceed Canada’s National Energy Code by four percent. Situated in a prime location, Imperia has a Bike Score of 93 and a Walking Score of 84 that support pedestrian access to essential services in the community. These high scores promote active lifestyles, reduce the carbon footprint through less reliance on vehicles and benefit local businesses through increased foot traffic.
