Jayman BUILT had a vision to develop an active seniors residence that evoked the feeling of a luxury hotel with social and cultural amenities, supporting interaction and community engagement. With a target location at Westman Village, a lakeside master-planned community in a deep suburb of Calgary, AB, the design required the provision for memory care, assisted living and independent living facilities.

As part of the overall Westman Village neighborhood, NORR wanted to ensure that the senior residents at the Journey Club could engage with the amenities offered throughout the community. Accessible pedestrian bridges connect Journey Club directly with the Amenities Centre next door, which offers a swimming pool, gym, yoga studio, café and hobby rooms. Tunnels running from Journey Club to the rest of the community allow residents of all ages to interact, helping to solve the problem of social isolation for seniors.

NORR designed 21 memory care suites, 30 assisted living studio suites and 77 two-bedroom independent living suites with high-end finishes, the latter having full kitchens and spacious balconies. Accessible outdoor gardens create a dynamic intergenerational shared environment.

Journey Club raises the bar for residential care in Alberta. The client can offer a high-quality way of life with an Age in Place program, which meets the changing needs of its residents. In turn, residents live in an amenity-rich environment, promoting mental and physical wellbeing, growth and social engagement.
